Statement:
I am a painter and collage artist.
Art is the space where I experiment freely, follow intuition boldly, and make quick decisions. Inspired by portraiture, spirituality and divination, memory, and the poetics of both nature and urbanity, my art seeks to represent the ephemeral moments that stay with us over time, but can only be recalled for an instant. I emphasize the importance of both process and product in my work, and believe in the therapeutic, mystical properties of imbuing art with intention and genuine emotion.
I primarily work with acrylic paints, pens, images and words from found books and magazines, glitter, and Chinese Joss paper, which is burned at alters and believed to provide ancestors money in the afterlife. These days I’ve been working on canvases and found wood, and in the past I’ve worked on found cardboard. Indeed, using found materials is important to me, as I believe in an accessible, sustainable artistic practice.
